Amazon has made the next move in this veritable Canon price war — they have the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM for $699.99. This is the absolute cheapest price we’ve seen the lens-only from an authorized retailer — a $400 price drop. (Even the unauthorized dealers are only selling for slightly below this, and they sell split kits!)
What is going on with all of these deals? We’ve been studying Canon prices for six years now and have never seen this many deals. Has Canon abandoned price control?
Here’s a graph of the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM price history from authorized dealers. Notice how extreme Amazon’s latest price drop is.
Still waiting for that 16-35mm L!
Me too!
Does canon want to sell everything and get out of the market with those deals and insane rebates:)
I need 17 mm TS for $1500. Thank you:)
Think this lens is finally priced appropriately. Least for what I’ve used.(never owned this one)
Think they need to get a bit aggressive. Those new Sony’s look pretty interesting.
Buy!..buy buy…damn…waitn on the 100L Macro!!…bring it on!!
24-105L is a winner for sure but with the recently announced Sigma…..
Waiting for the 70-200f/4 IS
Do you think there is any chance that retailers will do a drop on the 300mm 2.8 II?
I have been checking that and the 1DX, and Amazon, B&H, and Adorama have just dropped the 1DX to $6,599, some options with extras (memory card, etc), though B&H seems to be the best with extras + 4% back (Adorama is either the extras OR 4% back, not both).
What is the cheapest official Canon dealers have ever offered the 1DX and 300mm 2.8 II?
Hi Jason, I think there’s a low chance that you’ll see a drop on the 300 II or the 1D-X. Canon just doesn’t discount the high-end, even near the end of the product cycle. You can follow the prices on a price graph on their pages: http://www.canonpricewatch.com/product/03454/Canon-EF-300mm-f2.8L-IS-II-USM-price.html http://www.canonpricewatch.com/product/03792/Canon-EOS-1D-X-price.html
You’ll see the lowest for both (before rewards) was about $6500, ever. My recommendation for getting a deal on these two is refurbished; it comes with 1-year warranty, is almost like new, and is $5739 and $5439 respectively. We also link these at the bottom of our price comparison pages, but currently they’re out of stock.
I think this might explain the sudden price drop. http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/10/25/sigma-announces-pricing-and-availability-of-24-105-f4-lens-art
Bummer I missed the two day 24-70 price war – make sure to get these while they last!
Hopefully the 24mm/1.4 will come down in price too.
