CanonPriceWatch’s March Group Buy Deal on Canon Lenses

We’ve set up an exclusive Group Buy with incredible savings for CanonPriceWatch readers! The special prices are hundreds of dollars less than the current prices.

To join the group buy, fill out the contact form on our group buy page, and we’ll get in touch with you!

UPDATE: There has been astounding interest in this — we’ll be closing the group buy at Monday noon. Please sign-up and place an order with the retailer before then. If you do not get an e-mail from us within a few hours of signing up, please feel free to contact us.

UPDATE 2: If you already placed an order, thanks! Please make sure you followed the instructions, and the store will send an invoice for payment close to when the order will ship, mid-March. I know this is a bit slower than usual but hopefully the savings are worth the little wait!

UPDATE 3: Due to extreme demand, there are now some items in this group buy that are back-ordered — the store will update the orders with the expected date when it’s known — please stay tuned, we should have more info by the end of the week. We’ve also now closed the signup.

All items are brand new from an authorized Canon dealer, and come with Canon USA warranty card. At this time we can’t reveal the name of the dealer, but they are reputable and we highly recommend them! The price includes shipping to the continental US (extra to rural areas). Tax will not be collected by the dealer for any US states.

Some other notes:

  • Quantities are limited on all items, this group-buy is first-come, first-serve.
  • The group buy will ship in mid-March — you won’t be billed until your order ships.
  • You don’t need to do a mail-in rebate!
  • But this also means the prices above are NOT eligible for any active Canon mail-in rebates.

To join the group buy, fill out the contact form on our group buy page, and we’ll get in touch with you!

If you purchase something through a link on our site, we may get a small share of the sale (at no cost to you). Please read our disclosure for more info.

These are the only lenses available? Not sure if signing-up is for these particular lenses only. Please clarify. Thank you.

What are the mechanics of this group deal? In other words, who collects credit card and other personal info? Would we be providing that information directly to the dealer/vendor, or a 3rd party such as CPW?

    1. CanonPriceWatch

      Directly to the store.

I just sent the new batch of e-mails. I’ll be sending e-mails in waves every hour or so today; this is to give people a chance to get their orders in, in an orderly fashion.

Will there be other group buys in the coming month? This is the first time I have heard of it and would like to participate, but the lens I wanted is not on the list this round. Thanks in advance.

Yes. Just send us a contact message with the lens you want to see and we’ll see if can get it in the next one.

Fantastic deals! Thank you! Be prepared though. Paypal will ding you for another 2.5% (by inflating the exchange rate) if you’re paying in USD.

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      March 7, 2014 at 2:34 pm EDT

No, the invoice will be in USD, so there’ll be no exchange rate if paying in USD.

      1. Bruce
        March 7, 2014 at 4:28 pm EDT

It didn’t work out that way for me. I was invoiced $949 for the 70-200 f/4 and Paypal charged me $878.59 USD. I just double checked.

        1. CanonPriceWatch
          March 7, 2014 at 4:40 pm EDT

Hi Bruce, just wondering if you followed the instructions in the e-mail? If you select “contact me” as the payment option, they should (manually) send you an invoice for $859 USD (so the store covers the exchange rate).

        2. CanonPriceWatch
          March 8, 2014 at 1:23 am EDT

Just for everyone else’s info, please follow the instructions carefully when placing the order to avoid any additional PayPal fees. If you have questions please don’t hesisitate to contact us.

If you already incurred fees, please let us know and we can try to figure out how to fix that. 🙂

Not a good price on 35L
Comparing this price $60 saving on 35mm 1.4 with the currently going $100 Rebate, doesn’t look a good deal.

    http://www.canonpricewatch.com/blog/2014/03/new-canon-lens-mail-in-rebate-march-2nd-march-29th/

    Am i missing something?

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      March 7, 2014 at 5:36 pm EDT

The best price on the 35L is $1329 right now before rebate, or $1229 after rebate. This group buy is a $60 savings on -top- of the rebated price, for $1169.

I will agree that it’s one of the smaller discounts on the list! There are much better deals.

Just got an update on my order for the 70-200 f4 IS, apparently it is backordered, I was hoping this didn’t happened, that is really too bad as I need it for a shoot in April 2nd to 5th BajaProg Concerts. Now more than ever I wished we had a group buy for the 70-200 f2.8 IS, keep me posted! I will call and cancel this backordered lens…

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      March 10, 2014 at 11:15 am EDT

      (Removed name of merchant.)

It is backordered because it is not shipping until next week, as mentioned — but I’d expect that you would get it before April 2nd barring any other unforeseen delays, which we’d keep you updated on should they happen.

      1. Jose L
        March 10, 2014 at 11:31 am EDT

Yes, I spoke to one of the guys there, very helpful by the way, he explained to me exactly what you are telling me, except he said 2 weeks or so for the 70-200 f4 IS to become available, plus 3 days in shipping, was tempted to keep the order but it is a bit too close to the event I am shooting, can risk not having it in time and be shopping for a lens in a hurry if that was to happen… I will probably end up buying the 70-200 2.8 IS with them since they do have a good deal on it, if they can match B&H after the current $200 rebate ($2149 total) I am definitively doing business with them… I will wait another week or so to do this, in the mean time, if something comes up for the 70-200 f2.8 please do keep me in mind, I am glad I found CanonPriceWatch, great offers, look forward to your mail.

I’m going to shutdown the signup form on our end now, and the retailer will shutdown the group buy links on their end at 1 PM.

I just got a shipping notification on the 17-552.8 I just bought.

  31. March 10, 2014 at 5:09 pm EDT

I’m going to wait until the next group buy (it was incredibly tempting for the 70-200 F4, which I do want, even if I already own the 2.8 II), but what held me back this time was the secrecy on certain things.

If an authorized Canon dealer, how is tax not being collected? Is the dealer in Hawaii? (etc). And why can’t the dealer’s name be mentioned?

Would like to see some follow-up experiences from people here before I buy if you do this again.

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      March 10, 2014 at 6:43 pm EDT

Retailers that don’t have a presence in a particular state aren’t required to collect sales tax to that state — just like how B&H and Adorama don’t collect sales tax outside of NY (and NJ).

Note, this doesn’t necessarily mean you can evade tax — legally, the end-purchaser is responsible for remitting the tax to the government as part of the income tax return.

Secondly, we’re not posting the name of the dealer as not to jeopardize their existing business and sales.

  32. CanonPriceWatch
    March 10, 2014 at 6:46 pm EDT

I’ve heard that some orders were indeed shipped today! Please chime in if you too got a shipping notice.

Unfortunately we also had overwhelming demand for some items that they can’t fill with their current inventory, so some orders have been changed to back-ordered status. I’m sorry about this development.

I’m working closely with the retailer and we’ll keep you informed as to when we have a date. Please sit tight, you got in on a great deal!

Personally, this was a weekend of doing nothing but responding to e-mails and contact forms, so I will go get some rest now. 🙂

This is excellent to hear Bruce, thank you for coming back with the good news to the group. I wish I could have waited till first week of April for the backordered 70-200 f4 IS, just couldn’t risk it at this time.
On the other hand, I decided I will jump in for a 70-200 f2.8 IS, wondering what are the chances of this lens in a next group buy? Please make it happen CPW! 🙂

I spoke to the guy regarding the 70-200 f4 IS, he told me about 2 weeks and that was on the 10th, so this lenses should ship around the 27th, add a couple days in shipping and you should have your f4 IS by the end of this month… I canceled my order of this lens because I need the lens for an April 2nd to 5th shoot and simply didn’t want to risk not having it by then, I ended up buying an 85mm 1.8 for this particular shoot and now waiting for a group sale on the 70-200 f2.8 IS. This guys seem to be shipping everybody else lenses they got in stock promptly, so it is just a matter of Canon supplying them with the f4 IS’s and they should ship it to you fast as well… I am looking forward to do business with them….

I’m planning a trip in April so I called the seller to find out rough timing. the guy I spoke to was very understanding and helpful. He explained that it is hard to estimate the delivery date (for backordered lenses).. can be 2-3 weeks or even a month. Apparently there is a shipping strike which is also affecting the lens delivery to the store. as of now, he doesn’t know when the lenses will arrive in his store to provide us an estimate. So no commitment on the date or approx date. I will give another 10 days before i cancel. again the store guy was very helpful – so i am going to wait it out.

I don’t think they are filling orders with their current inventory they have. Website doesn’t say 70-200 f/4 is out of stock.I really don’t want to miss manufacture warranty…. I’d like to know which and how many lens are back ordered..

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      March 17, 2014 at 2:54 pm EDT

They have exhausted their current inventory filling orders, as this group buy was larger than expected. They have ordered more from Canon and it is on the way — rest assured all stock sold by them will be eligible for warranty as they are an authorized Canon dealer.

Yes. We’ll get an answer from the retailer soon, if we get close to the rebate deadline you can always choose to cancel your order at that time…

  44. Sid Phadnis
    March 17, 2014 at 9:54 pm EDT

What’s the rebate deadline? I mean would the group buy price not applicable after the rebate deadline ? I already have placed order and the lens (I believe lots of folks placed an order for 70-200 f4) is backordered. I can wait another month, however what I don’t want is them getting back and saying they cannot offer at that price anymore since rebate deadline is passed 🙁

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      March 17, 2014 at 10:01 pm EDT

There is no tie between this group buy and the rebate deadline, just that some people were thinking that if the delay is too long they’d buy the lens on the current mail-in rebate instead.

They are listed as an authorized dealer under their corporate name (this is a common practice for authorized dealers e.g. BuyDig is “Beach Trading Company”). You can contact me and I’ll tell you their corporate name.

You can also see their corporate name on the “Company Info” page on their site, and it matches up as an authorized dealer.

My lens was shipped last Tuesday and it arrived on Friday! Glad there was no problem with shipping because the label had the state as TN instead of TX. However, the zip code was correct. That was really fast shipping. Again, thanks for setting up this buy.

Just got an invoice for the 300/2.8 supposedly arriving at the retailer on the 21st. Paid today, so I guess that means it’s coming soon.

The retailer has let me know that they are being shipped all the remaining 85L and 300L on Monday — please check your mail for the invoices and pay them so they can get them shipping out to you!

    We’re still waiting on a few more 70-200 f/4L IS — I’ll update again when there’s news.
