Using eBay “Add to Cart” Discount to Bypass Canon’s MAP?

We now see that one Canon authorized dealer instituted an “add to cart” discount via eBay. They’re offering $10 off per every $150 spent on Canon lenses when added to cart, for example, the 24-70mm II is $1949 after $200 rebate and $150 discount. We’re wondering if this will be allowed (since it’s via eBay) or if we’ll see this quickly shutdown. It’s always good to see more price competition in the marketplace.

For this “deal”, the $10 per $150 spent discount is only an average 6% discount. On all items it is not as good as the average 10% discount available through our very popular street prices program, from authorized Canon dealers. We’ll be writing more about Street Prices soon but for now you can browse the testimonials as well as the frequently asked questions.

The added benefit is the stack of eBay’s buck rewards on top of the vendor discount. eBay occasionally runs 4x buck promotions. If the timing is right, it can turn into a good deal.
