Super Hot Again: 5D Mark III + 24-105L $2899 (Import) eBay Frenzy!

This super hot frenzy deal is back! BigValueInc via eBay has the Canon EOS 5D Mark III with EF 24-105mm f/4L IS Kit for only $2899.99. This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen on a brand new (import) 5D Mark III + 24-105mm. The previous low was $3080 during Black Friday 2013.

We saw this deal a few weeks ago (through their alternate store name ElectronicsValley) and we’re pleased to report all positive reader feedback and not a single bad experience.

A white-box 24-105mm typically goes for $600, so this is like getting a 5D Mark III for only $2299 — an incredible price.

BigValueInc is a reputable unauthorized dealer who has been a source of reliable deals over the last few years. They have a 98.9% feedback score on high-value Canon items, including a perfect feedback record on the previous 5D Mark III + 24-105mm sale.

This is an import version (physically identical to the US model, but not intended for the US market). A Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed, so the store provides a warranty instead. After one year, your kit becomes the same as every other Canon USA warranty kit: if you need service you will need to pay Canon for it (and Canon will gladly service an grey/import model if you pay for service). Compare with our street price of $3299 AR from an authorized dealer. Transactions on eBay have been generally safe as you can rely on eBay Protection, PayPal Protection, and credit card protection.

This is insane. Lol. What’s going on? They’ve been dropping their prices.

    1. October 6, 2014 at 6:43 pm EDT

I got a US version of the 5D Mark III last year for $2400 without rebates from an authorized dealer. This deal isn’t even that great.

No — our lowest street price (body-only) has been $2699. The lowest advertised deal (that we know of) has been $2675, during last holiday, and again at March of this year.

I am not sure how that reader got that price, perhaps he is counting credit card cash backs or other offers.

It’s a import model not made in the US

    1. October 6, 2014 at 12:33 pm EDT

ALL of them are made in Japan.

Greg is correct. All Canon 5D Mark III are made in Japan. The difference between “US Model” and “Import” is US models were intended for the US market, and Import models were not.

    4. October 6, 2014 at 1:07 pm EDT

Clearly that’s why there selling them for cheaper.

    5. October 6, 2014 at 1:28 pm EDT

Yes. This is noted quite clearly in the post.

    6. October 6, 2014 at 1:34 pm EDT

Some stores, Adorama for one, will sell grey market items that might sell for more because they are not eligible for rebates. I’m sure the dealer got a great price on the cameras from a Japanese distributer because they weren’t moving. The market there must be flooded with merchandise so they got rid of them.

    7. October 6, 2014 at 6:42 pm EDT

When did canon make anything in the US?

I pulled the trigger on this yesterday. Shipping label was printed today, still not in the UPS system yet, so probably it will arrive Thursday or Friday. I will report back when I receive the unit.

I ordered on Oct 7th, Shipping label created on the same day but not shipped yet. When i called today automated voice response saying 9th and 10th they are closed and they ship the item on Monday. In Ebay Estimated delivery Tue, Oct 14.

    1. October 9, 2014 at 3:08 pm EDT

I just came to post the exact same thing. Except since I ordered on Monday, I had an estimated delivery of on or before Friday, Oct 9. Very unhappy about this since Monday is a holiday, which will mean for a week it didn’t even ship.

      1. October 9, 2014 at 8:34 pm EDT

As a further update, when I contacted them via to eBay to ask what was going on, the person told that he could confirm my camera had shipped that it can take up to 24 hours to show up in the system. Seeing as it has been 48 hours, all they really did was look to see that the label was printed. As an eBay seller myself, I know that once you print the label eBay marks it as shipped, but printing a label and actually shipping are two distinct things.

Afraid you might have led us astray on this one, CPW.

🙁 They have been reliable in the past…

It is probably not helped by the fact they may be impacted by the Thursday/Friday closure this week. Hopefully this is just a shipping delay and not some bigger fiasco, please keep me up to date on any new developments.

Good news. My camera shipped from florida and now UPS showing estimated delivery as Monday 13th. I hope your camera also shipped and you will receive soon.

          October 9, 2014 at 9:47 pm EDT

Small update. The initial tracking number is different than the current tracking number. Get the latest tracking number from ebay.

        4. October 10, 2014 at 2:19 am EDT

I went back to eBay and am also seeing a new tracking number. However, since Florida is much further away than the original location, which was NJ, it’s going to take mine until Tuesday. That’s a wee bit frustrating since it didn’t ship until this evening (AFTER my eBay contact) meaning it took three days to ship when their site indicates one and shows a map that indicates packages will get to me in one day, obviously not possible from Florida.

It seems like they are printing labels whether they have the product in their NJ warehouse or not in order to make their eBay metrics look good, and then worrying about getting the package out later.

I’m saving a lot of money on the camera, but I REALLY am now skeptical about what will happen if it’s broken upon arrival or needs service within the first year.

        5. October 10, 2014 at 2:33 am EDT

Looks like the “ship from” is no longer Big Value Inc as it was on my first tracking number but F & E trading, per UPS. Another alias I guess?

          October 10, 2014 at 6:48 am EDT

The product is around 3years old in market, gone through all fixes, firmware upgrades and proven as solid. Most ississus can be identified in initial use and they have 30 days return policy. They sold lot of imported cameras from past 2 years and I didn’t see any bad reviews in any of the blogs. Even if we need to pay for service, still we have savings on this deal. I am not much worried except funds locked on my free Apr credit card for a month or two if they didn’t ship or shipped bad one.

Did a bit of digging, looks like F&E is their actual parent company name, and they have both the Somerset NJ warehouse and the Miami FL warehouse:

“F&E Trading is part of a wide global network. Our reach in both the import and export of goods stretches to over 80 countries. With a loyal worldwide customer base, we are able to consistently guarantee that the products advertised are available and in stock at all times. With a 100,000 sq ft flagship warehouse based in Somerset, New Jersey, and a secondary distribution location conveniently located portside in beautiful Miami, Florida, both locations are essential in providing our customers with fast and efficient products and service.”

I haven’t seen them do this before (ship from Florida) but I wouldn’t quite worry about it yet.

        8. October 10, 2014 at 2:47 pm EDT

I did some digging as well, and apparently they have gone under dozens of names and shuttered some of the old ones to open new ones over the years. It seems pretty sketchy. Here are some of the other names they have done business under, many of which are now defunct and all operated out of the same location:

Broadway Family, dba: 800PhotoVideo LLC (800PhotoVideo.com [restricted], stores.ebay.com/800PhotoVideo); A & M Photo World LLC (AMPhotoWorld.com); AMDV.com LLC [American Digital & Video] (AMDV.com); Big Valueco Inc. Fascinating. I hadn’t realized they were all those other names too.

Ravindra is right — at the end of the day, they have been reliably selling (import) cameras for the last couple years now with no major incidents reported. You are protected by eBay/PayPal protection for the first 45 days if there’s any issues, and with the savings you’ll still be quite ahead in the unlikely event you need to pay for your own 1st-year repair (doubly unlikely as Canon is known to provide service even on grey market bodies).

          The wait is over.

Today i received the package and quickly verified in lunch break. Every thing looks good except missing warranty card (Which is expected).

I took few snaps with new camera and lens and pics are amazing and no issues identified. fast focus and silent IS with the lens.

Well packed box, camera came is kit box lens removed, lens came in white box. Not sure why they separated into two boxes instead one single box.

All the items expect(charger cable with US pins) are looks new, no fingerprints, no scratches, and come in warped covers.

I got two charger connector cables, one with UK pins and another with US pin. UK pin cable looks canon authentic but US pin connector cable looks cheap and third party. But working good.

The battery looks new, made in Apr 2014, 0% charge in it, compared with the battery got from B&H, looks slimier and authentic to Canon.

No warranty card( Which expected)or invoice in the box(which is not expected), at least they should include invoice. Looks like the entire shipped box is imported and they just stick shipping label and shipped.

when i switch on the camera it is asking date time set up with city London default selected. Looks like camera made for Uk market.

Here are the contents in the box.

          1) Canon 5D Mark III
          2) Battery charger
          3) UK PIN Charger connecting cable.
          4) USA PIN charger connecting cable(Looks cheap, third party).
          5) Neck Strap
          6) USB Cable
          7) Video cable
          8) Battery LP-E6
          9) Camera manual
          10) Two cds( Not checked what those)
          11) EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens
          12) Lens hood, cap
          13) Lens pouch
          14) Lens manual (English included)

I am able to register the camera, means covered with canon usa warranty?

        14. October 14, 2014 at 5:41 pm EDT

My report is pretty much exactly the same, right down to the London time zone, PAL default setting, and very cheap US charger plug that was thrown in the box and not with the other accessories.

The first thing I did after putting in one of my 7D batteries (since the included one came with no charge) was connect it to EOS inspector and the shutter count was 0.

I was able to register the camera on Canon’s site.

Took a few test shots and wow, the difference from a 7D to a 5D MkIII is just crazy. I was mainly looking for low light improvement and this is a huge leap.

Still think the company is a little sketchy but right now I’m too happy with the new toy to care!
