We’ve been told that Canon will be starting their final rebate of the season on Sunday, November 23rd. The rebate will end in January, 2015, so this will be the last rebate of 2014, with no more rebate changes coming this year. Comparing these new rebates with the existing current rebates shows the following:
- No changes to existing lens rebate values.
- $100 rebate increase (now $300) for 5D Mark III
- $100 rebate increase (now $300) for 6D
- $100 rebate increase (now $300) for 5D Mark III + 24-105mm f/4L IS
- $100 rebate increase (now $300) for 6D + 24-105mm f/4L IS
- A few lenses (notably 24-70mm f/4L IS and 100L Macro) now have a small rebate.
UPDATE: The rebate form has now been accidentally leaked by a certain dealer.
As we said after the last rebate, we didn’t expect a further increase in the lens rebate this year, but we thought that Canon might increase the body rebate slightly. And this happened! As this rebate ends in 2015, there are no opportunities for further rebate increases. This also means that our current authorized dealer street prices on lenses (and newly reduced body street prices due to the increased rebate) are likely the lowest authorized dealer street prices of the year. (We can never rule out retailers changing the pre-rebate street prices, but since prices are already so low, any movements are likely very small.)

If I’m not mistaken, there seems to be room for retailers to bundle a Pixma Pro printer for less than the amount of the additional $300 rebate, which would effectively lower the after-rebate price of the bodies more? Are the printers also subject to MAP when bundled with bodies? Thanks
In the past we’ve seen retailers sell the printers (+ free paper) at around $350 — this causes an after-rebate price for the printer at about $50 as you’ll get the $300 rebate.
Since that rebate increases to $350 when you buy a camera, that means that printers can be bundled for free with the 6D and 5D Mark III deals. They won’t result in lower after-rebate street prices, because the street prices are already low.
If a retailer is selling at MAP, they can give away the printer for free or almost free and thus discount the body by the full printer rebate amount ($350). This is how B&H and Adorama were able to do the 1D-X and 6D+24-105mm and 5D3 deals without violating MAP. It’s playing games, really, at the end of the day the retailer is making up for the “free” printer by charging you MAP on the body.
But if you’ll notice, those prices were still higher than our street price, AND you can always just add a printer for free to our street prices (after rebate). We’ll post more about this later.
I’m not sure I follow the math used in this example. For a 6D / 5DIII you’d get $650 in rebates ($350 for the printer combo, $300 for the qualifying camera).
But looking at current prices (Adorama as an example) has the 6D 24-105 and Printer/Paper at $2897. Even with $650 off, that’s $2247, or more than $300 over street price ($1939) without the printer.
The $2897 price is the list price. They will offer a special bundle discount. A good example is the 70D + PIXMA PRO-100 bundle that we’ve been posting from Adorama for $799 AR ($1149 before rebate):

MAP on the 70D is $999. Adorama is adding a printer + paper and only charging you $150 for it. Then you can get a $350 rebate to net $799. This (apparently) is legal under MAP.
There have been other examples even during MAP, for example the 6D + 24-105mm for $1999 AR.

Thanks. If a retailer were to hypothetically give a Pro-100 for free or almost free with a 6D+24-105 this season (not saying it’ll happen), that would be an AR price as low as $1850 for the bundle.

There’s another rule that you can’t bundle more than 10% value with a MAP item. It seems to be loosely enforced.

This is a mistake on BuyDig’s part; BuyDig is including in its calculation both rebate amounts, the old ($200 + $200 = $400) and the new ($200 + $300 = $500), for a total of $900. It’s obvious when you click on “Rebate Info” once you have it in cart and it’s showing you the 4 rebates it’s using that sum up to $900.
This is obviously wrong, you will not get $900 from Canon, only $300 + $350 = $650, making your net price $2248, not a deal.

I bought mine from Camera Canada for around $2k with a lens. Only place that was offering with a 24-70 f4L IS lens. They’re not offering it with that lens anymore. Instead they’re doing it with the 25-105mm. Hope this helps.

It’s moving at this price, so I doubt street price retailers will want to discount it further. I don’t control them though 🙂

I just called Best Buy inquiring about a 150 dollars rebate for Canon EF 24-70 f 2/8 II USM Lens, and according to the customer service agent whom I talked with she says Best Buy does not have a rebate. I check Best Buy via CPW website and find the price for the lens is reflecting the rebate = $1949..and thoughts??
