Super Hot eBay Frenzy: 5D Mark III + 24-105L (Import) for $2699

An insanely hot Cyber Monday eBay Frenzy Deal saved for last:

6th Ave via eBay has the Canon EOS 5D Mark III with EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM (import) for $2699.99. This is the new lowest-ever price for the 5D Mark III + 24-105L kit. The previous low was $2899 from the same dealer, on eBay.

This is a really hot deal because the lens (brand new, white-box) typically goes for about $600 — netting you a brand new 5D Mark III for only $2099.

This is for an import model, where the store provides a 1-year store warranty — read our FAQ about imports models for answers to the usual questions about imports, warranty, and unauthorized dealers.

Another argument for how hot this deal is: it’s $500 less than our already low street price and a full $1000 less Canon’s MAP of $3699 AR for this camera + lens combo.

    Wow

  3. December 1, 2014 at 10:56 am EDT

If they can sell them this cheap. Why can the US cameras be a little cheaper?

    1. December 1, 2014 at 12:23 pm EDT

It’s the import taxes that get you (plus processing fees)

    2. December 1, 2014 at 5:09 pm EDT

A lot of this price difference has to do with the large appreciation of the US$ vs. other currencies, as a result resellers can arbitrage by buying foreign bodies and importing them. Authorized dealers must buy from Canon USA and don’t get the choice.

      There you go Billy

    5. December 1, 2014 at 5:42 pm EDT

I just bought my new camera and am going to hold off on the 5D 3 because the 5D 2 is still killing it in the studio stuff

    6. December 4, 2014 at 1:45 pm EDT

I bought one when the deal was $2399 for 5d3 body only. The camera is wonderful!

    7. December 4, 2014 at 6:01 pm EDT

I think they still have the body for $2399. Only $300 more for a great L lens.

  4. December 1, 2014 at 11:10 am EDT

    Super cheap

  5. December 1, 2014 at 11:31 am EDT

I would buy if I could get it fixed when something goes wrong

    1. December 1, 2014 at 5:09 pm EDT

In the first year you have the store warranty (even though Canon is known to service grey market goods as an unwritten policy). After the first year, Canon will repair it (if you pay them), just like any other body. So your “import” issue only affects the first year of ownership.

    2. December 1, 2014 at 5:25 pm EDT

    Canons the best…

  9. December 1, 2014 at 12:05 pm EDT

So Canon will not touch it even if you are paying for it to be fixed after the warranty is up?

    1. December 1, 2014 at 5:08 pm EDT

No, Canon will repair it (if you pay them) when the warranty is up, just like any other body.

I read this ebay listing and 6ave says there will be a 15% restocking fee just in case you want to return this? is this ture?

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      December 1, 2014 at 11:08 am EDT

Yes, if it’s not defective, they charge a large restock fee, so please make sure you want this before you order it.

If the item is defective or not as described, they waive the fee.

Get a refrub body on the Canon site… great warranty, have to get them quick when they come up but got mine a year back for around $2400.

    1. December 3, 2014 at 10:45 am EDT

Yes, also a great option, but with this deal you get a 24-105mm f/4L IS USM with your body for the same price.

    2. December 3, 2014 at 11:04 am EDT

Don’t need that F4 lens when I have primes and 2.8’s

      1. December 3, 2014 at 4:31 pm EDT

Well you can still sell it for $600. Thats what I did and you end up getting a body for $2100-$56 from ebay bucks…

The BIG mistake was when you stopped making cameras that use the Compact Flash Cards. The newer cards are too small and too light too easy to drop and to lose.

    1. December 2, 2014 at 1:17 pm EDT

I don’t understand what you’re talking about, the 5D Mark III takes either CF cards or SD (or both).

    2. December 4, 2014 at 6:08 pm EDT

Many laptop computers these days have SD card readers built in. None have a CF. Customer convenience.

Thanks – I think I’ll take this now over the B&H 5D Mk3/24-105 and Pixma Pro-10 printer deal package … thought that was good (and it is) but I’d have to sell the printer, wait for the rebates, get cash from the card, etc … this is a much, much better deal and less hassle too! No tax, no shipping and $54 back. Geez, I’m heading for the buy button now!

    1. Jeff
      December 1, 2014 at 8:17 pm EDT

And, it appears that B&H deal has ended … but, either way, this smokes that (despite being import).

  23. Jeff
    December 1, 2014 at 8:27 pm EDT

And, since I saw the comment on Facebook … the Canon refurb and 24-105 refurb under the Canon Loyalty Program are 2447.28 + 643.44 = 3090.72 (although, the 24-105 might not be avail under this anymore and could be 785 now). So, this beats that by a long way too.

Is there a possibility of these import items to be fake? Can someone make sub standard Camera bodies with Canon name on it?

  33. December 4, 2014 at 8:40 am EDT

Beware !!!! This camera has no warranty!!! Canon will not touch it along with any authorized dealer. It’s a grey market camera, whatever warranty they offer is worthless!!!!

    1. December 4, 2014 at 8:49 am EDT

Stephen, you may not have the full picture. Here’s an excerpt from our imports / grey market FAQ:

Do I get a Canon USA Warranty?

The official answer is no, Canon USA will only service a USA model camera bought at an authorized dealer. This is why the store often provides a 1 year store warranty, equivalent to the warranty provided by Canon USA.

The answer on the street is: Canon USA will service anything — USA model or grey market — provided you have a receipt showing you purchased it within the last year. Canon stands behind their products. They’ll never admit this policy in writing though, so it can be subject to change at any time and without warning; you should be comfortable with the chance you may need to rely on the store warranty, should Canon USA change their policy within the year.

After one year, your camera is out-of-warranty, and you have to pay for service (just like any other camera, authorized dealer or not). Canon will gladly accept grey market items for paid service, unlike Nikon, which refuses to repair a grey market body, even if you’re paying them.

    2. December 4, 2014 at 6:04 pm EDT

Wow Stephen, it’s a good thing you did the TINIEST bit of research before you said something stupid……

    3. December 4, 2014 at 6:09 pm EDT

Thanks Greg, but the explanation above is crap and you’re a fool if you buy into it. Canon WILL NOT COVER THIS GREY MARKET CAMERA. But go for it your seem to have it all figured out.

Is the Canon warranty card FOR THE LENS included in the box? I understand that this is an import and may not be serviced by Canon.
