Lexar Professional 1000x UHS-II SD 128GB $68, 64GB $39

More great deals on high-speed Lexar SD cards.

This deal is only a few dollars more than an Amazon Lightning Deal which sold out in only two hours, last month.

These are UHS-II Speed Class 3 cards rated up to 150MB/s read. Note that all Canon cameras at this time don’t support the UHS-II interface, but this card is backwards compatible and will operate as a fast UHS-I card. This is fantastic pricing for a fast card that is future-proof for later camera offerings.

Would this be a good card for a secondary in a MarkIII?

In general, you don’t want to use an SD card in a 5D Mark III (even as secondary) as it slows down write access to your CF card. The 5D Mark III doesn’t have UHS support, so you wouldn’t be using the speed of this card. You may want to still buy a fast SD card to minimize the time it takes to download images to your computer, though (150MB/s is really nice, I can copy import a full 64GB card to Lightroom ~8 minutes.)

What you’re indicating is not completely accurate. If you have a SD card in the camera, but you’re only writing to the CF card, it’s not going to slow down write access to the CF card. For example, you have two cards inserted with the camera set to ‘auto switch card’ in which case, writing to the SD card occurs only if the CF card fills. If the camera is set to ‘rec. separately’ or ‘rec. multiple’, then yes, the write speed (and maximum burst) is affected.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, the slowdown only occurs if you are recording to the SD card.

I am getting ready to order some equipment through you guys, the 7D Mark ll. Is this a good choice for that camera or does something else make more sense? Thanks.

I purchased the 7D Mark II and the Lexar 64GB SD Card. It’s working very well for my needs! I haven’t had a chance to shoot sports with the card however, I’m very confident that the card will hold up after doing a couple of burst-rate tests. So far, even though I also have the Lexar 32GB 1066x CF Card, I pretty much use the SD card as my main card and the CF as a backup.
