Interesting that when Canon mistakenly allowed coupon code stacking last week none of these popular items were available. Maybe it was intentional fire sale after all.

How do items become refurbished? Where do they originally come from, and why are they sent for refurbishment?

From a moderator on Canon’s forum:

“Here’s what we qualify as a refurbished product here at Canon:

Products are returned to Canon for a variety of reasons, including overstock balancing, miscellaneous returns from retailers, suspected mis-operation, and minor damage to the box. The products that are serviced have undergone rigorous function and cosmetic inspections by trained Canon technicians and fully meet new product operational specifications and selected cosmetic standards established by Canon U.S.A. Inc. These refurbished products must pass a comprehensive quality assurance inspection before final packaging and shipment to customers.”

Canon has a repair facility in Virginia that refurbishes and tests the products.

missing the last week’s fire sale, did not find it encouraging to buy 5d3. with 300$ more, a new 5d3 can be bought.

Last week ordered the refurb 5DIII only to have my order canceled. Canon could not say why. Agent promised to call if the 5D3 came back in stock and that they would honor the price.

Your email alert notified me the refurbished store was restocked and I called Canon and ordered the 5D3 at last week’s price of $1,525.45 plus tax. It took a while because the agent said she had to put in the price manually, and then she had a supervisor add some type of note to the order to avoid any problems in processing.

I placed the order 3 hours ago, and the current status is “Order received and ready for processing”. Last week it was canceled after only a few seconds (I didn’t learn that it was canceled until the next day) so it looks like it might work this time.

If it weren’t for the fact that this 5D3 price is so great, I might have ordered the 1DX.

Order status changed to Inventory Fulfilled.

What is worse is I still can’t get my 5d mk iii order fulfilled from last Saturday. What the heck is going on with this company? No supervisor follow up, nothing…….this has not been fun. It’s been a daily task of following up with sales agents and supervisors…and nobody getting back to me. Patience is running thin.

    1. November 2, 2015 at 1:03 pm EDT

What is the status on your order now?

how can order them from outside the U.S.??

  19. October 31, 2015 at 12:32 pm EDT

The “onepal” code didn’t work? And … Tax? Why Canon why???

    1. October 31, 2015 at 12:53 pm EDT

I’d rather pay my tax now versus later at tax time.

    2. October 31, 2015 at 3:42 pm EDT

“ONEPAL” needs to be in capital letters.

    3. October 31, 2015 at 4:29 pm EDT

Capitals? Doh .. Didn’t think of that 🙁

I had the same issue. The express shipping code didn’t work. But i ordered anyway. Would rather wait for longer shipping than miss this awesome sale. And yes, had to pay sales tax too.

Update on Saturday Oct 24 refurbished sale:
After working on this daily and following up with a customer relations supervisor this morning, Canon finally allocated a refurbished 5d mk iii to fulfill my order. Even though they have been in stock since end of last week. They honored the multi-coupon pricing originally offered on Oct 24. The order was redone and now shows as “inventory fulfilled”.
It has taken daily effort to make this happen. Looking forward to putting this behind me. Also, thanks again to CPW for the initial notification on the morning of October 24.

I was waiting for 70-300 L for long time and did place the order as soon as I saw it available but unfortunately canon’s “system” cancelled the order without any reason (at least the reps did not know the reason) or information. I checked with the bank and they confirmed there is no issue with this and I still see the total amount blocked on my credit card.
I was told by canon sales support that this can not be corrected as the item is not there in stock anymore !!!
Needless to say, highly disappointed and irritated.

    1. November 3, 2015 at 6:02 pm EDT

DJ, I had a similar issue with the 5D Mark III. I ordered it with all the discount codes, system canceled my order, they can’t say why, sorry about your luck. The agent told me that she would “monitor” it for me and if one came in, that she would contact me and that they would honor the discount price.

A week later the 5DIII came back in stock. I called Canon (waiting for a call from them would have been futile) and placed the order on the phone. Canon honored the price of my original order and it arrived today.

I would call back and see if they will agree to honor the price if it comes back in. I’m not sure how infrequently your lens shows up in refurbished inventory, but it ended up working for me.

Brian, Glad you got your camera 🙂 and I will be getting the lens too .. 🙂 Got a notification from CPW that one lens is in stock, called up Canon and they happily honored the price of last order and also provided free 2 days shipping.

Final update on refurbished 5d mk iii purchase…multi coupon day…Oct 24.
I finally received the camera today after much pressure on Canonmthese last 10 days. They honored the original pricing. I took it to a supervisor initially and then referred to customer relations. All I can say is they made it right.

    Thanks Canon and thanks CPW.
