Up to $300 off Apple MacBooks (12″, Early 2015) at B&H, from $999

B&H is offering up to $300 off 12″ Apple MacBooks, this weekend only. Most colors and configurations are available. The basic configuration for $999 is a fantastic deal.

We can’t resist posting this, because we’re huge fans of the 12″ Apple MacBook. Weighing in at just over 2 pounds, it’s the perfect weight and size to slip into a camera bag. There’s no fan. This means it runs very quiet, doesn’t get hot, and the battery lasts all day — we don’t even bring the charger. Photos and videos look amazing on the Retina display. They keyboard is surprisingly usable. (Did you know, most of these blog posts are written using this MacBook?)

What do people think about the AppleCare? Two-year AppleCare adds $229 to the price tag. Is it worth it?

I personally have never found extended warranties on electronics particularly useful.

Having done IT in science at multiple places, I would say applecare is worth it, maybe not for a $999 model but certainly for a $2499 model. I had one 13″ C2Duo MPB go through 6 logic boards in 3 years, note, some of these were RMA’ed machines, and some were just board swaps. And some they swapped the power brick, etc too. Logic Board at least back then in a $1300 computer was $700, so it was a steal for that one. At $999 you might want to also look at SquareTrade, if you were buying a thousands of dollars machine I think it is a cheap insurance plan.

Am not sure if your team use the base configuration model for importing and editing images in lightroom?

Isn’t the basic MacBook 13’3 better than this one?

Different beasts completely. This one’s lighter and longer battery life. Really, designed for travel / use on the go.

6 logic boards in 3 years? So the conclusion is MBP is unreliable and high maintenance. That’s too bad. This macbook design is the best one but if I have to add extended warranty or insurance, I don’t want to touch it.

Just a thought…instead of taking anecdotal evidence on a camera price website as gospel, do your own research. Apple’s profits have some of the highest reliability in the industry and their customer service is rated far superior to all other tech hardware companies. The MacBook is absolutely worth a look.
