Super Hot: EF 50mm f/1.2L USM for $1149, Brand New, at Amazon

Amazon has the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM for $1149.00. This is sold by Amazon (not a third party), and is the lowest price seen yet for this lens brand new from a Canon USA authorized dealer.

Amazon’s price is $200 below the minimum advertised price of $1349 for this lens; this deal likely won’t last long.

Could it be a sign that a new 50mm L lens is on the horizon?

It’s more a sign that Amazon has a bunch of unsold 50L; so many that they’re willing to openly break MAP (and invoke the ire of Canon) to sell them.

This is cheaper than refurbished right now. Wow. No brainer

Unfortunately for me it’s still way too much 🙁 I wish I. Could afford this lens. But I do have 50 mm f.1.8

Will this lens be replaced by a newer version soon?

I heard that too, that is the only reason I am not jumping on this deal.

My thoughts are: if this lens is replaced by a newer version, it will likely have an introductory price of around $2000-2100.

Such a killer deal! Wish the CAD/USD wasn’t so terrible right now or I would jump on this.

How is Amazon managing to drop the price? I thought it was against Canon policy for a while now.

It is a MAP violation. There could be penalties for the dealer breaking MAP…

It could be an opening shot from Amazon at Canon that they need them more than vice versa, but I sure wish it was on the 85 rather than the 50. But I bet ultimately CPW is right and Amazon will move a few hundred units in the time it takes Canon to write a letter bitching at them over the holidays.

Still wish it was the 85! You rock Gordon happy 2017 to you wishing you lots of good snaps.

Damn those tax of $106 totals more than the street price.

Most disappointing lens I’ve owned. Went through 3 copies before switching to the 50mm 1.4 which has never let me down. Had hoped it would be just like the 85 1.2 :-/

Have just about every lens. This thing has the worst AF around. Praying for a Mk II

I tested and found 50 1.2 is not as good as 85 1.2. So, I will keep waiting for the 50 1.2 II.

I’ll probably save $129 from regular retail price after sales tax. But this lens isn’t sharp at all compared to any 50’s in the market…I’ll wait for version 2.

Wow, what a controversial lens. 🙂
