Tamron 150-600mm G2 + $300 GC for $1399, Beach via Newegg

Authorized Tamron dealer Beach Camera (via Newegg Platform) has the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 for Canon plus a $300 Newegg gift card for $1399.00. This makes the net price for this recently announced lens $1099, considering the value of the gift card. This pegs the new Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 at only $200 more than its predecessor.

On a side note, Newegg has become the new platform of choice for many camera dealers — we’ve noticed a marked shift over the last few months away from eBay.

Careful. This must be a “grey market” lens. This does NOT come with a USA manufacturer’s warranty – it comes with a 3rd party warranty. All authorized Tamron dealers must sell USA warranted equipment for the same price, as dictated by Tamron. This might be a good deal IF the 3rd party warranty is reputable.

Ray, your information is incorrect. It is from an authorized Tamron dealer, thus it has the full Tamron USA warranty. Tamron cannot restrict the selling price of their lenses, that would be price fixing. Tamron can mandate that no dealer can advertise a price below their minimum advertised price, which is why dealers are using workarounds such as the free gift card.

I disagree! Walmart got in trouble with Canon a few years back for adding a $10 gift card to the authorized price of a lens. Tamron is one of many major photographic supply manufacturers that require controlled pricing – a requirement for being an authorized dealer. I work at an authorized Tamron dealer and this is NOT allowed! Have you confirmed that it is not grey market (or open box)? I’ve seen retailers advertise USA warranties that were actually USA third party warranties – not he USA “manufacturer’s” warranty. I will inquire Tamron to see if we are missing out on something here. I’ll get back with you on what Tamron tells us.

I’m sure dealers who try to work around MAP will “get in trouble” with the manufacturer. However, it is illegal (against price fixing laws) to force dealers not to discount. Manufacturers can play games like withholding stock from dealers who are working around MAP. I disagree with your assertion that any dealer that works around MAP is selling grey market goods.

Well, let’s just agree to disagree. My intent was to just make sure people double-check before buying something that’s significantly cheaper than other dealers – that’s all. I, too, think that MAP is price-fixing. However, I’m not a lawyer. Also, I don’t understand why Walmart accepted the penalty instead of putting their lawyers on Canon and pushing the price-fixing issue. In any case, I hope people do fine with this deal. Also, thanks for what you do with your site in keeping us informed on the latest.

I am very happy I returned this and bought a Canon 100-400Mark 2 through the CPW Street Price program. My crops are sharper than the G2 fulls. Gotta love a 30 day return policy!
