We’re now tracking prices on the just announced Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III for $1299.00 at B&H, Adorama. The PowerShot G1 X Mark III is scheduled to begin shipping towards the end of November.
A first for a PowerShot, the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III sports a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 7 processor to realize notable image clarity, a wide sensitivity range from ISO 100-25600, an impressive continuous shooting rate up to 9 fps, and Full HD 1080p/60 video recording. The sensor’s design also facilitates Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which offers quick and accurate phase-detection autofocus that benefits both stills and video applications.
IMHO, and at this price point, this is going to be a very, very tough sell. I loved, but sold, the G1X Mark II. This is shy of twice the cost of that camera. Great features and all, yes, but the price will scare would-be buyers away. Another thought. What good are 9 fps at a measly 72mm?
Canon has lost their mind.
If this helps Canon prepare/learn for whatever/whenever their FF mirrorless is going to be, great.
Not sure who the target audience is, though I said the same thing about the Sony RX1.
biggest most expensive pile of poo ever
Not gonna troll as hard as others are, but I have to agree, this isn’t that impressive looking. For it’s price, you are probably getting a better value than say a 6D with a 24-70mm lens on it, but then you lose that value once you realize you paid 1300 bucks a for a point and shoot. I would think if it had 4k video maybe, as it could fill a niche market. I guess maybe it is aimed at Japanese tourist? I can’t understand how Canon seems to be missing the point of how to make your customer happy. It isn’t about just having that retro body style, but also about making the overall package look appealing. I think I would rather have an 80D with 18-135mm lens for not too much more.
Another thought. This is clearly a retro-styled camera (unlike the Mark II). That’s fine. But It is not nearly as appealing or attractive or modern-looking as the Mark II. In fact–it has little eye appeal.
