Best Buy and the Canon Rebate Double-Dip

Best Buy returned their prices to “normal” today — they’re now featuring the same pre-rebate price as all other stores. We interpret this as confirmation that the low pricing we saw earlier this week was unintended — an accident on Best Buy’s part.

We’re also hearing from our readers that Best Buy has shipped all their orders at the low prices, and the rebate pre-submissions are being accepted on Canon’s rebate portal. Given the approved pre-submissions as well as all the clarifications from Canon’s hotline, we now have pretty good confidence that the double-dip will work out (as long as Canon does their part). Congrats to all who got in on the deal!

Unfortunately, with the price increase, the opportunity to get the 24-70 II for $1699 is over for now. We’re always on the lookout for the next big deal so please subscribe if you haven’t (use the notify button on the main page, or follow us on twitter) and we’ll e-mail you as soon deals happen.

If you purchase something through a link on our site, we may get a small share of the sale (at no cost to you). Please read our disclosure for more info.

I got the 24-70ii for about $1700 after rebates and cashbacks. I should be getting the lens tomorrow.

Just sold my 5D2 two days ago, waiting for big value inc on eBay to have that promotional price on the 5D3, any idea when that’ll happen again?

They’ve had sales every week or every two weeks. Setup an e-mail notification and we’ll e-mail you when we see it go in-stock.

Bummer! I spoke with a BH sales rep today and they were actually price matching Best Buy all week. He was pretty astonished that they were doing it. I was all set to place a pretty hefty BH order tomorrow that would have been an even greater deal over Best Buy — no sales tax plus a 4% rewards. Oh well…thanks for being on top of these great deals!

I had called some contacts at B&H and asked about the price match — no dice. It might have been just a few specific reps.

Yeah, could have been specific reps. I had a pretty lengthy conversation with one rep and was put on hold while he checked with the head of sales. He returned and confirmed (to his surprise) that they were indeed matching the prices and still including the 4% rewards. He learned that apparently they had been taking many calls/orders all week due the BestBuy prices. Wish I would have acted right then to place the order…oh well!

Never thought about that! To be frank, the price difference between BB and other retailers, like B&H, isn’t that big if you need to pay tax and others’ 4% off.

Best Buy shipped my order but I think UPS lost it (or stole it), the tracking info has not moved for 3 days since Best Buy tendered to UPS. Talked to Best Buy and they will trace it, but it is slim to no chance that UPS will recover the package when this happens based on my past experience with UPS. Hopefully Best Buy will ship another one to me instead of refund my order.

Thank you Canonpricewatch for alerting me to this offer. Got my 24-70 II and submitted my rebate.

Thanks canonpricewatch! I got my 70-200 2.8 II from Best Buy in the mail the other day and love it! I couldn’t pre-submit th rebate because the website only accepts 9 digit serial numbers and the lens has a 10 digit number. I emailed acbpromotions and they said it was a bug in their website and to just mail it in and they would process it.

    Thank you, CPW!
I just picked up my TS-E17 from Best Buy yesterday evening. For those who have presubmitted their rebate claims, what is the promotion ID? I have not found it yet and on the rebate form, it is simply noted as TBD.
    Thank you in advance.

For those who are downloading forms from B&H and elsewhere, if the promo ID still says TBD, use the id above or go to Canon’s own website — Canon has an updated rebate form.

Picked up a 70-200 2.8L II on 9/29 at $300 off from Best Buy and received pre-submission mail in rebate approval as well… Great deal at $600 off!

I just received my $300 gift card in the mail over the weekend from the rebate on a 70-200 2.8 II from Best Buy. Less than 3 weeks!
