I used the 15% promo code at 9:30 AM to purchase an SL1 body. Wish I knew the discount was going up to 20% a half hour later!

The SL1 is still in-stock, so you could re-order and cancel the original one.

I didn’t receive the email about this until 12:00 noon on Sunday. Just curious why I didn’t get it sooner since this was posted at 10:06 am.

This post (with the 20% off coupon) was posted at 11:06 AM ET Sunday (sorry, the times shown are CT, I should change that). It took a few minutes to get all the e-mails out as there were also about 15,000 item notifications going out. Also, lots of mail providers (including yours) will delay/quarantine or slow down mail acceptance when they receive a lot from one source.

For Canon Refurbished sales the best thing to do is not rely on this hot deal post, but sign-up for a notification for the individual items you are interested in. The individual e-mails are fully automated (when things go in-stock), the hot deal post still requires a human to make. 🙂

I picked up the 70 – 200 200 is II with the 15% code, only to find out 2 hours later, there is a 20% code. By then the lens was already out of stock. E-mailed & called Canon to try to switch the code, but was told that was not possible, unless I cancel & reorder, but by then my order has already gone through.

    Very frustrating!

I have to believe that the 15% off followed by the 20% off was a ploy by Canon to sell the highest demand inventory at a lower discount. I imagine there are only a few of the most highly sought after pieces (like the 70-200 2.8 IS II) and they would go fast with any discount. Why else would they send out 2 promotions 30 minutes apart? That being said, I did see the 70-200 2.8 IS II come back into stock 2 times on Sunday but was unable to complete checkout either time. Both times I was stopped with an error on the last page of checkout: CMN3101E The system is unavailable due to “114095915” .I’m guessing this means “out of inventory”. BTW I just noticed that Canon has now removed all of the out of stock items from the refurb lenses category. The status on the product detail pages have gone from “out of stock” to “not available”. I’m guessing this means they don’t expect to restock these products soon.

Chris – I think you’re right. The sale seems to be over. If you look at Canon’s DSLR sales, they are lower than expected. They might have been dumping excess stock but didn’t expect so many people to use the coupon. Maybe we will see more but I’m guessing after Nov 2 unfortunately.

The sale’s not over — you still get 20% off the 6D. All the good lenses seem to be out of stock though.
