eBay Deal Frenzy: 5D Mark III for $2399 (Import) from BVI, GetItDigital

It’s here, the eBay Black Friday 5D Mark III deal! Two deals from two reputable (but not authorized) dealers:

BigValueInc via eBay has it for $2399.99. (Tax only to NJ.)
AllNewShop via eBay has it for $2399.99. (Tax only to NY.)

This is the new lowest-ever price on the 5D Mark III. Both of these deals are for import models, where the store provides a 1-year store warranty — read our FAQ about imports models for answers to the usual questions about imports, warranty, unauthorized dealers.

This will likely be the lowest price of the season and we expect it to sell out. AllNewShop via eBay is the alternate store name for GetItDigital. Both dealers have a solid history of reliably delivering brand new bodies at great prices in previous sales — see their CPW eBay Feedback Score.

If you’re not comfortable with buying an import (even with your eBay and credit card protection) please consider our street price of $2599 after the $300 Canon mail-in rebate, from an authorized Canon USA dealer with full Canon USA warranty, only $200 more than this price.

Try using Chrome as your browser. IE tends to mess up sometimes.

    > This will likely be the lowest price of the season

/Maybe/ of the season, but with rumours of its replacement early next year it should go lower. Anyone who’s not in a rush to buy might want to hold on.

      November 27, 2014 at 12:54 pm EDT

The reason why we think it’s the lowest of the season is: we are told by various retailers that eBay Frenzy deals are subsidized by eBay, with the Black Friday frenzy having the biggest subsidy of all.

Yes, retailers may lower the price, but without the subsidy from Black Friday the price might only equal this current deal.

Ian, I agree with you thoughts. Its been very difficult not pulling the trigger on this deal, as well as the one in B&H with the 5DMIII+PIXMA PRO-100+accessories for $2749 after rebate. I have a 6D so is not like I am without a good camera, and this makes it somewhat easier to wait for me. I need the much better focusing system of the 5DMIII since I shoot a lot of fashion runway, as well as concert photography and I am sure my keeper ration would greatly improve over the 6D under those circumstances, but I been managing ok. If I didn’t have a good camera, this $2399.00 would be impossible to pass up, it is a fantastic camera, and this is a great price.
I am really excited about the much awaited 5DMIV, supposedly to be announced in February at CP+ Japan
A thanks to CPW for the great job they do, Gordon, thank you so much for all your help.

I would agree that if you have a 6D it makes sense to wait for a 5D Mark IV. I would say it is optimistic to expect it in February, as new technology is probably due in the 1D-X first.

      1. November 27, 2014 at 6:06 pm EDT

Right, that exactly what most people in the know such as yourself agree on and it only makes sense… Its been a while since I have such hard time deciding, my wife told me just buy the thing already :), but yeah, the 6D is covering heroically my heavy field use, not to mention it shines in my studio. Then the 7D Mark II, yeah, that one only added to heavy temptation list, all those cross type focusing points, but I did not want to purchase a cropped sensor. With all that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if I pull trigger on a 5D Mark III is something crazy happens on Cyber Monday or around Christmas lol!

    2. November 28, 2014 at 12:10 pm EDT

I’m /not/ so excited about the 5d4… I remember Canon’s issues with previous 5d variants which means I wouldn’t want to buy it for 6-12 months until it had been properly tested and reported on.

And, like you, I’ve got a perfectly fine camera right now, a 7D in my case, just looking for less low light noise. A 5d3 would be just fine for me and looking at the way the 7d price fell off a cliff when the 7d2 was announced I’m thinking /that’s/ the time (for me) to buy.

In the mean time I’ve replaced all bar one of my EF-S lenses (the 10-22 is the lone hold out) with EF models so I’m ready to go.

      1. November 28, 2014 at 12:48 pm EDT

Ian, seems we share a very similar approach to this things. On the 5DMIV, the thing is, I owned a 70D for almost one year, I loved, absolutely loved the articulated touch screen, the wifi, the 2 pixel focusing in live view was superb, with that said, I would love to have those 70D features as well as the new features and tech specs of the 7D Mark II in the 5D Mark IV, particularly the newer sensor, WiFi, Touch Screen (if articulated even better). The Articulated screen in the 70D allowed me to effortelsly take above the heads of a crowd shots, low shots without having to lay on the floor, the wifi was awesome to control everything in my shooting with my iPad or iPhone as well as to do a quick transfer to share pictures to clients on the fly. The touch screen is excellent to transfer focus from one spot to another, once you use it, you love it.
Just imagining all this features in a modern full frame camera puts a big smile on my face. I know this are all modern conveniences, but, I also feel that there is nothing wrong with embracing new tech that help you be more productive in a more efficient way… So, I ended up purchasing a 5D Mark III from Big Value Inc just now, I will nicely wait and see what happens in 2015, just like you said, see what flaws the new cameras will have, let them work out the bugs if there are any, then, if it is the monster I been waiting for, go get one, sell one of my older cameras ( I do need 2 cameras sometimes with me, one with a 24-70mm and one with 70-200mm lenses) I am also now looking at the new Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II, lets wait ans read some reviews on it and wait for some deals on it, that lens looks nice!

Any idea why the sales of BigValueInc are many times higher than AllNewShop? I know all about unauthorized dealers on eBay but can it be that the first one is better than the second?

On a different note – whenever the new 5DMIV comes out the min price will be well above the current $2399 for the 5DMiii. I am happy to finally get the 5DMIII. Will sell my one year old 6D to partly subsidize the new camera

Thank you Gordon!!! This website rocks!

Recently, eBay has been asking retailers to re-use existing listings instead of starting new ones (probably has to do with Search Engine Optimization). That makes it so the “# Sold” counter is not necessarily from this sale, but may be from the last few sales.

AllNewShop has much lower volume as most of the sales are done through their other store “Get It Digital”. The Get It Digital 5D Mark III listing has something ilke 1300+ sold.

  11. November 27, 2014 at 3:32 pm EDT

I found this deal cheaper on another site. Would you price match if I give you the reference?

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      November 27, 2014 at 3:54 pm EDT

We’re not a store, so we wouldn’t be doing the matching, but you’re welcome to share details of the deal here; I or other readers can comment on it.

I am so sorry but with my bank account this is not a deal. But if anyone has a camera out there that does not want their canon after you buy this one, just PM me and I will give you my address. You can even send COD.

  16. November 28, 2014 at 12:27 pm EDT

I went ahead and ordered a 5DMIII from BigValueInc, in reality it is a lot of camera for the money. Just want to comment how difficult it was to pay with my Paypal Credit, the payment would not go through, I have plenty of credit in my account as well as available funds that belong to me not to Paypal and that unfortunately are still at Paypal (never again), after 1:16 minutes and 3 reps up to a supervisor they solved my problem and the charge went throught, however, they could not use my available money or funds ($1100) so I had to charge the full cost of the camera to Paypal credit, no big deal, I will just transfer my funds to my checkings account and do a Paypal payment with it, same thing money wise, but I thought I would share this info. Basically if you sold something on eBay and you money from that sell is still with Paypal and you want to use it along with Paypal Credit to make a large purchase, you wont be able to, not cool… BigValueInc has included 4 day free shipping so expecting my 5DMIV by December 4th.
Again, all the credit where credit is due to CPW for keeping us posted on this great deals, I will be in the hunt for the 5DMIV in a few months!

    1. November 28, 2014 at 12:29 pm EDT

That was 1 hour 16 minutes on the phone with Paypal, not 1:16 (edit)

Does anyone know about BigValueInc return policy? I see it says buyer pays return shipping, but I can’t tell i they charge a restocking fee if you send back the new/unopened camera.

      November 30, 2014 at 10:19 am EDT

They do; at the bottom of the listing they mention a 15% restock fee if not defective; that seems higher than I remember it to be.

One reader mentioned that AllNewShop made an upsell call regarding the “import model” 5D Mark III that they ordered via eBay. This is very concerning. Did anyone else experience this too? Please reply, or message us via the contact form.

Bought mine from BigValue Inc. No upsale call from them. UPS says Camera will be delivered tomorrow! Yeah!

Yesterday I ordered an import 5D Mark III from them ($2149). Today I received an call form them asking if I was aware the item was an import. I told the rep that I was aware and he proceeded to tell me that he has seen many models with “Made in Malaysia” and “Made in Taiwan” labels on them. He also told me Canon would not warranty (expected) nor repair (questionable) the import model. He then offered to ‘upgrade’ the purchase for another $250.

I had a very good experience with the AllNewShop customer service.

I put the order on Nov 27. They got the shipping label ready on Nov 28 but did not ship right away. I called today morning to cancel because I wanted the new better combo deal with 6thAve. The AllNewShop asked why I was cancelling and checked to see whether they can match the 6thAve deal.
Then he said he will do his best to cancel without charging the 5% restocking fee. In a few hours I got the calcellation and a full refund, no 5% restocking fee charge.
