Canon Lens Prices Increasing By Almost 20% in Canada, April 1st

We can now confirm a Canon Canada price increase in April. This price increase is needed to bring the currently lower Canadian prices in-line with US prices, as Canon items in Canada and the USA have warranty valid for both countries. Savvy readers have recently been taking advantage by purchasing from Canada (contact us or use the street price form if you’d like help.)

We’ll be seeing, on average, a 19.8% increase in lens prices and about an average 10.2% increase in body prices across the Canon line-up.

As this change is due solely to foreign exchange rates, we don’t expect a corresponding Canon USA price increase. However, street prices may float up as the competitive pressure from the Canadian dealers is removed. Given the current strong instant rebates, now is likely a great time to buy.

If you purchase something through a link on our site, we may get a small share of the sale (at no cost to you). Please read our disclosure for more info.

The prices you quoted were grey market deals from unauthorized dealers. Authorized dealer prices have never been that low.

Side note: another major Canon-related website is reporting that Canon Canada dealers “don’t have to follow MAP for lenses”. This is actually incorrect. Canon Canada dealers have to follow a similar MAP to the Canon USA dealers. The price difference is solely due to foreign exchange rates, not pricing policies of Canon Canada vs. Canon USA.

Can you share some of the new pricing details? Given the specific percentages it sounds like you have a list.

Shame on you Canon! Shame, shame, shame! Revenue ¥3.800 trillion (40 billion $) (2015) and you suck our blood in this brutal way?!!!

You are talking about the foreign exchange rates, but what the regular customer have to do with this?!!! Why do we have to absord this? Canon is 10 times bigger than Nikon and they are not capable of supporting this difference?!!! Cruel bastards! Buy Nikon people!
