W-E1 WiFi Adaptor (7D Mark II, 5Ds, 5DsR) for $39.95 at B&H

The gem from yesterday’s new product announcements appears to be the Canon W-E1 WiFi Adapter, available for pre-order at a very reasonable $39.95 at B&H Photo Video or Adorama. It’s compatible with the 7D Mark II, 5DS and 5DS R.

This Wi-Fi adaptor (in the form of an SD card) allows you to wirelessly transfer photos and MP4-format video to a smartphone, tablet, or computer, and use Canon’s Camera Connect mobile app to remotely control and trigger the camera. This is all done over a 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) band with a range of up to 32.8′.

This is available for pre-order for a very reasonable $39.95 at B&H Photo Video or Adorama and will first ship on September 8th — I’m sure this one will be popular!

      consider this instead. Wifi sd card adapter that takes up to 32 GB microsd cards, at half the price, and I can confirm it works well with the 5D3 or other cameras that use standard sd cards.. Even works in my canon eos M or compact to connect to phone. I have been using it for over a year now with no problems.

    I assuming you put this in the SD slot and use a CF card to capture the images? So the only cameras that could work with it would be the ones that have dual slots.

    1. August 25, 2016 at 2:54 pm EDT

      You need two card slots. Been waiting for something like this.

      5D mkIII has two slots, so would it work?

      I don’t know. Canon does not mention it. I have the 7dmii

    Same price at Adorama with free shipping.

    I’d say more of a patch than gem. WiFi cards are not a new technology, and I’m assuming in order to use this one you are required to use a compact flash card for data storage and can’t use the duel cards while shooting for redundancy. Not a great solution for something they should have done right the first time.

    I’d love to have this. But I shoot raw on the CF (for me) and jpeg on the SD (for my wife).

      You can shoot jpegs to sd slot as you’re used to but have immediate access to them via wifi

    Misleading CPW title. There is NO MEMORY in this card. It’s a WiFi card that does not store picture data.

    @Mike Jundt,

    I suppose it could if Canon releases firmware update for 5DIII. It’s up to Canon to support 5DIII. The 7DII, 5DS, 5DSR requires minor firmware upgrade for the card to work.

    Finally a use for the SD card slot 😉

    Agree with Scott. Wifi should have been included in these cameras in the first place. $39.95 isn’t so reasonable considering it is indeed a patch.
