EOS M5 Announced and Available for Pre-Order ($979)

The EOS M5 was announced — finally, a mirrorless from Canon targeted at the higher end of the market. Featuring a 24.2MP CMOS sensor using Dual Pixel technology, a DIGIC 7 image processor and a built-in 2.36M-dot EVF. It also features burst shooting at 7fps and 1080/60p video that combines in-lens and digital IS for 5-axis stabilization for movie recording.

It will ship at the end of November, and can be pre-ordered now at a price of $979 (Body Only):

Going to assume since every lens I’ve seen for mirrorless Canons has an EF-M designation, no.

And you’ll need an adapter to mount our lens

    3. September 15, 2016 at 10:23 am EDT

Think it’s the same sensor as the 80d buddy

      80D is a DIGIC 6 , not Digic 7 🙂

What are the drawbacks of the adapter? Can u still get the 5 axis stabilization with it? Can u still use the lens’s own IS?

No, only select lenses can take advantage of the 5-axis Digital stablization.
Normal optical stablization still applies to any IS equipped lens though, but the additional digital correction is subject to select EF-M lenses.

Why no 4k? Why only 8 lenses to choose from? Why all the lenses with crappy apertures?Canon nods to get serious.

Sooo you’re telling me this ain’t gonna beat my GH4 in terms of video…

  12. September 16, 2016 at 6:52 am EDT

God, no! Crop sensor, forget it. Can’t use EF lenses, forget it. No 4k video… Canon is so far behind the Sony it’s not even funny. Why even bother with this?
