$1500 would be an acceptable retail price for 2012 technology….

As much as everyone complains about it, they are actually selling very well at this price.

  4. April 28, 2017 at 11:29 pm EDT

Oh dang, and I just switched to Nikon…

    1. April 28, 2017 at 11:57 pm EDT

I’m thinking of switching over to Sony.

I simply avoid buying half a decade old camera body technology which was behind Nikon’s sensor even then.

  6. April 29, 2017 at 10:15 am EDT

Not worth it, very old camera.

    1. April 29, 2017 at 10:33 am EDT

I don’t own it but I hear it’s an exceptional camera and this looks like a good price point. It goes for $2500 on Amazon.

    2. April 29, 2017 at 10:39 am EDT

I own it it’s a great camera from 5 years ago.

    3. April 29, 2017 at 11:32 am EDT

      Still an awesome camera

LOL what? I bet this guy thinks Sony is awesome.

5 years is very old? It might be made obsolete by a new model, but I would hardly call it old. It’s not like we jsut got the tech needed to take great photos in the last few months or so.

Considering the playing field, the mkIV goes for 3100 on a good price, and the 6D can be had for 1200, less on a refurb deal. I think the 5D III is a better camera than the 6D, but then, 800 bucks is 800 bucks. Not sure I can justify the cost of a MkIV even at the street price. 2000 for a full frame, professional level camera, is probably going to get the job done for a lot of photographers out there. I’m sure whoever gets it will be happy, until the next biggest and best thing comes out!

I still make plenty of money with my 5D Ii, the mk3 is just as relevant as ever.

The image quality hasn’t decreased in those years, moot point.

Your right Andre, the IQ hasn’t changed over the years. It’s the competition who has become better.

Kevin, 5 years is old for tech equipment, how many renditions has Intelgone through in 5 years?

6D, no thanks decent IQ with a Rebel AF. Wouldn’t even look at it.

      And no I don’t own a Sony, I’ve had a 5DIII & 1DIV since 2012.

Your cameras and computers anology is no where near apples to apples here. A person with an out of date pc will run into issues running modern programs, if it isn’t strong enough to run them. On top of that, there is a good chance the socket it plugs into is obsolete too, so they can’t just buy the latest and greatest processor and catch up. A camera that took great photos 5 years ago still takes great photos now, unless the operator has no business using a camera at that level. Plenty of people still have the 5d iii, and it still is a great camera. All the same lenses will work with it. The same images can be edited in LR and PS. It’s only obsolete because there is a latest and greatest, not because it isn’t a top performing DSLR. There most certainly is a place for so called “very old” camera gear. Not so in the world of computers.

I traded my 5D mark III for a new in the box 7D mark II to get 10 fps and it built to last. I know I traded a full frame for a cropped sensor but I careless I like the cropped sensor. …

    1. April 30, 2017 at 1:52 am EDT

When I first used the 7fps on the 80D I was blown away. 10FPS would probably make me need to carry spare pairs of pants around!

  13. April 29, 2017 at 9:47 pm EDT

i will keep the 5 canons i have now the 5d mark111 will do nothing for me

In case you haven’t noticed, Nikon is also dropping all their prices on the D750, D500, D810…B&H and Adorama are both dropping the prices on the Canon…
