Technically, version II is only $100 more than version I, if you look at Canon’s full retail price. Also, you might be thinking of the 24-105 non-L lens which is considerably less.
Why is “grey market” cheaper?
The Canon warranty is the “grey” area; they may choose not to honor it. But often the grey market dealing backs it up with their own warranty, and typically will try to upsell an extended warranty. Most commonly the grey market item is from a market outside your region, so the warranty does not apply.
Total waste of money, V2 is no better than V1. Also the Sigma Art 24-105 beats the shit out of it :)…
I decided to buy this today, as I miss my 24-105 Mark I. The price simply can’t be beat at this point, and if there are any issues, the seller’s 30 day return and warranty (plus ebay buyer protection) has you covered.
