38%-Off Refurbished Bodies & Lenses at Canon Store (Price Mistake?)

UPDATE: Deal is now dead. This got quickly picked up by major deal sites and Canon was flooded with orders. Looks like Canon has disabled the two “other” coupon codes. I wouldn’t be surprised if cancellations are coming next.

UPDATE 2: It looks like almost all orders are being shipped!

One of our readers reported that the Canon Direct Store is allowing multiple coupons to be stacked together to make an overwhelmingly incredible 38% discount.

This is resulting in some incredible deals (see above). See our refurbished stock tracker to see what’s in-stock.

Use the following 3 coupons in cart, one after another:

  • PUMPKIN2014 for 20% Off
  • GHOST2014 for 15% Off
  • BOO2014 for 10% Off
  • Together, this makes a 38% discount.

Since this is likely a price mistake, your order might get cancelled. However, the last time they had a similar mistake, the infamous LUCKY sale in March, our readers reported that all orders did ship.

If you purchase something through a link on our site, we may get a small share of the sale (at no cost to you). Please read our disclosure for more info.

That’s awesome. When should we expect a restock of refurb 600EX-RTs?

Likely not before they fix this bug…

I am currently trying this and it is not working for the 6D.

That’s just my luck. Of course the one thing I want in the world, a 6D, isn’t heavily discounted!

It’s working for some people — 13 70Ds were bought in the last 10 minutes. I must admit that I bought some stuff too, before posting this. πŸ™‚

Trying it on the 430EX and the 24-105 not working still πŸ™ you lucky folks who can get your order through…

  4. October 29, 2014 at 10:06 pm EDT

Well, I ordered a lens of which there were 3 when I added it to my cart & started the checkout. At the end of the order which it accepted, it showed an item count of 1 & also said it was Out of Stock. So, not sure if putting it in my cart got me 1 of the 3 or if I was too slow. Of course, this all assumes that they don’t cancel the order. πŸ˜‰

    1. October 29, 2014 at 10:19 pm EDT

Well, my CC got charged, so presumably I did get the order in in time. Now we wait. πŸ˜‰

      Was it the 24mm?

    3. October 29, 2014 at 10:37 pm EDT

No, the 50mm f/2.5 compact macro. For the cost, it’s worth taking a chance on using it when our 100mm f/2.8 macro is too long of a lens

You aren’t alone. I bought a 70D under that same deal. I suppose I could try ordering another and returning the first if the new transaction goes through. I think I will just keep the 70D I got and say “That’s life.” I bought another 430EX. Don’t need it, but couldn’t pass it up for $146.

          October 30, 2014 at 12:27 am EDT

Canon charges tax to all States (except the tax-free ones, e.g. DE, NH, OR).

  20. Joe
    October 29, 2014 at 10:59 pm EDT

This is amazing, but after tax is applied the 24-105L combined with the 6D at the CPW street price is only about $1 less expensive than buying the 6D kit at street price. Really goes to show you how amazing the street prices are!

I was going to get the 24-105L in anticipation of buying a 6D eventually, but after I did the math, I’d rather just buy it all at once and get a new 24-105 as opposed to refurbished. Nothing against refurbished lenses, I’ve bought several and have never had a problem, but why not get new if it only costs $1 more?

  34. Jonathan
    October 30, 2014 at 5:56 am EDT

I already have a 70D that I bought used (2 months old) for $850 back in March. The warranty will be expiring in January. I’ve also been wanting the 18-135 STM for video so I picked up the refurb 70D + 18-135 for $811 total! I’m going to sell my used 70D (hopefully for around what I paid for the refurb kit) and basically net the lens and another years worth of warranty. Actually, since I used my credit card, the warranty is doubled πŸ™‚ Assuming they honor the deal that is πŸ™‚

As always, great work CPW! Just my 2c though. On surface, the bodies seem like good deal but you can get brand new 70D and pro-100 printer plus a bundle accessories for $800 after rebate. The printer worth at least $150 and the bundle for at least $50. If there are some good L lenses left then it’d be a great deal.

  66. October 30, 2014 at 7:10 pm EDT

I wonder if Canon didn’t do something like this intentionally. It creates buzz and goodwill for the brand, and it allows Canon to blow out some inventory without seeming to cave in on pricing.

Canon’s a pretty big company, and they have a large team of professionals running their website. Mistakes like this have to get past a lot of people. Also, usually if a mistake like this is made, it is noticed very quickly and shut down, far quicker than it was in this case.

Either way, I’m glad a lot of people were made happy, and I bet that Canon still made a nice profit and benefited from clearing out some inventory.

    October 30, 2014 at 7:47 pm EDT

In case your order was cancelled, please go to bbb.org to file a complaint – false advertisement, or sale scam. Hopefully Canon will learn something for not honoring what they promised.

    1. John
      October 30, 2014 at 8:36 pm EDT

That would 1. not actually resolve your issue because mistakes are almost never honored and 2. put in place new checks to prevent this from ever happening again… so it would be a poor choice for both the goal of getting your order honored as well as for maybe catching a deal like this again.

    2. CanonPriceWatch
      October 30, 2014 at 8:44 pm EDT

I ordered last night, got an e-mail confirmation of my order. There is a pending charge on my credit card.

When I log in to my account, there is nothing on my order history. It’s simply blank. No pending, no cancellation. It’s just blank.

    Hope it goes through.

      CPW,
Do you think I should call customer service?

Still nothing on my account and no follow up e-mail.

Just wanted to report that my 430EX shipped. I’m amazed that Canon is honoring just about all of our orders. Too bad there wasn’t more stuff in stock that I wanted.

My order just arrived! I got a 70D, 24-105, and T3i kit at the full triple discount (38% off refurb prices). I can’t believe it didn’t get canceled. This is definitely the craziest deal I’ve gotten from Canon direct. Thanks CPW!

Yeah, $293 before tax for an SL1 is awesome. That’s a compact P&S price range. I think the M kit will be finding a new home.

    Thanks again, CPW.

Got my SL1 today. I was a bit worried at first because the box said Powershot on it. But it had the full SL1 kit inside, so all is well. The camera looks brand new, just like all the Canon Store refurbs. And I’m fairly impressed so far with the SL1’s image quality. For a $300 camera, it’s no slouch.
