Canon USA must have noticed the import/grey market craziness, because they will respond with a significant price drop and a new slate of aggressive rebates starting tomorrow, March 1st.
They will also switch from mail-in rebates to instant rebates for bodies. They will additionally increase the mail-in rebate values on lenses (and add more lenses to the rebate.)
Bodies
Canon USA will drop the MAP (or minimum advertised price) on the EOS 5D Mark III by $300 and the EOS 6D by $100. They’re also converting the current $300 mail-in rebate to a $300 instant rebate! Finally, they’re initiating a $100 instant rebate on the EOS 7D Mark II.
Here’s where all the street prices will end up as of tomorrow (all rebates are instant, the price you pay is the final price). We’re now taking street price inquiries at the new prices — brand new USA models from Canon USA authorized dealers, free shipping and a 1-year Canon USA warranty.
- EOS 5D Mark III: Street price of $2299
- EOS 5D Mark III with EF 24-105L IS Kit: Street price of $2699 HOT!

Lenses
Canon USA is starting a new slate of mail-in rebates, which is an increase from the rebates seen in February. (This is unheard of in our eight-year history of tracking Canon prices.) We’re seeing a return of some of the Holiday Rebate values (but sadly not on as many lenses). This is a new rebate period that runs from March 1st through March 28th, and is a different promotion-id from previous rebate periods.
Here’s where street prices will end up tomorrow. You can inquire now about the new pricing via our street price forms. Read more about our street price program that enables you to get great prices on brand new lenses from Canon USA authorized dealers.

We’re also seeing a renewal of the PIXMA PRO bundle rebates.
All in all, this is an aggressively low pricing from Canon (traditionally, prices rise after the holidays and remain high for several months). This shows a renewed interest by Canon USA to defend their market share against the import market, as well as from other manufacturers. Exciting times ahead!
Currency exchange is likely the driving force.
Yes. Currency exchange fundamentally drove the flooding of the US market with imports, and put downward price pressure on Canon USA.
If Canon USA could have gotten away with not lowering their prices, they would have. 🙂
Would be interesting if the import market responds with even lower prices!
What will Canon’s price be for the 135L?
MAP is $1049, less a $50 mail-in rebate (net $999). Our street price from an authorized dealer is $939, less the $50 mail-in rebate (net $889).
thanks!
That is an awesome lens
The loss of market share to the quickly emerging Mirrorless market probably has a lot to do with it too..!!!
You would think, but mirrorless hasn’t taken on except in Asia. According to CIPA, the number of mirrorless cameras manufactured worldwide in 2014 remains roughly unchanged vs. 2013 at 3.2 million units.
Well, in my band of photog brothers (and sisters) here in Columbia SC I know of 5 people who have made the leap from DSLR to Mirrorless in the past year, including yours truly. My Olympus OM- D M5 MkII arrives on Monday. A lot can happen in a short time period (and before the statistician can compile the data).
Hope you enjoy your Oly OMD camera, Bart…it seems like a great camera.
That being said, it’s usually not a good idea to go on anecdotal data, such as what your 5 friends are buying.
And no the markets haven’t changed that much since that last CIPA data. Large scale markets usually don’t change that quickly, unless a truly disruptive product is released. The last company to truly disrupt the camera market was Apple with its iPhone. In fact right now the only company I can think of with the clout and capability to disrupt a market is Apple.
True enough.
I don’t buy that. Most photographers that I know have no intentions to go mirrorless, having snappy auto-focus and long battery life is more valuable to a majority of photographers, than the marginal gain from mirrorless cameras.
Mirrorless is not taking off; it has a small market share and is stuck there.
Most people who want serious cameras still go for dslr’s. It’s not even close.
Mirrorless gets the chatter on the internet, but it’s been predicted for a while that mirrorless would take over, and it hasn’t even begun. The mirrorless takeover is like the fictional unicorn.
And for those who want smaller and lighter, Canon has the very fine SL-1, which is smaller and lighter and more capable and less expensive than higher end mirrorless.
Thanks for all the good work in CPW!

Now if only Adobe would announce LR6, and date it’d be out, and I’d be ordering a 7D2 right at those prices…
Thank you for the info..
All this is not only cuz the import prices is also cuz Nikon have drop prices and add big instant rebates…
Of course Cuz I jumped ship TODAY to the Nikon d810! Lol
70d?
We didn’t hear anything about this.
Looks like the instant rebate went up by $100 (from $100 to $200).
What is street price for 70d
I’m Ready to pick up the 5D IV if they would come on with it !!
May just pick up the GH-5 instead !!
Tus, if you haven’t already, you can check out prices here. Just make sure they’re not grey market…
Thanks! I think my dad picked something Up already
Chris Holt, our street prices are NEVER grey market, always Canon USA models with Canon USA warranty from authorized Canon dealers.
Jason Wedehase
Sweet!! Thanks! So glad I lost the eBay snipe last night.
Definitely. Hopefully the pill is a little easier to swallow now. Haha

will b&h reduce the $2549 5D mkiii and printer bundle by $300 as well?
We’ll find out at midnight, will we? 🙂
They didn’t, but Adorama did. $2249 AR. http://www.canonpricewatch.com/blog/2015/03/hot-5d-mark-iii-pixma-pro-100-bonuses-for-2249-ar-adorama/
Thanks for remembering. I think b&h eventually will. But I can’t believe that Canon didn’t meet the grey market price of $1900 for the body
B&H has now matched: http://www.canonpricewatch.com/go/Bundle/b=26403

Damn bought my gear a month too early

Still too pricey. Canon, prove to me in tangible understandable information why your products are expensive. Please explain why your marginally better product are hundreds and hundreds of dollars more than some of your competitors. My hunch is that you are using your position in the market and your favorable reputation to sustain a considerable and, in my opinion, unjustifiable markup of your products. It’s fair to make a profit and help sustain your workforce, but I know in my heart that, just like most large and powerful corporations, the end result of the consumer experience is that we spend WAY too much on your products, get a good or great product, and your profits continue to skyrocket. I call it greed justified by the image that you, and many corporations build, to mask their underlying and unspoken interests.
If I were exceedingly wealthy, I would still feel this way.
Canon doesn’t look here for user feedback.
I ordered the B&H printer bundle for the 5d mark iii just before they closed yesterday. Wonder if there is anything I can do.
Cancel it and order it from Adorama for $2249 AR (see one of our other posts.)

It’s time for me to buy the 24-70 F4, I guess
IF they want to keep their share of the market, they’ll also come out with a camera body that has the killer dynamic range of nikons D810, D750, and D4s plus the low light focusing capability, and resolution (not 50mp… that is a bit ridiculous). If the rumors are true to go to a 18 mp sensor, I’d be disappointed. It’s the equivalent of sony dropping to 12mp and claiming they have better low light capability. Nikon D700 or D3s? Please, make a real change in your firmware, processing and sensors. As far as mirrorless goes, they still have a long way to go before they can do what a DSLR body does in terms of fast tracking low light etc. yeah yeah sony a6000…. every 4th frame is sharp. I’ve tested it, didn’t like it, shot an a77 and a99 before switching to canon. If you shoot standard low iso daylight or brightly lit scenes, any camera will work just fine. It’s when you start shooting concerts, theater, and ballet, is when you test a cameras mettle. Canon needs to come up with something that compares to the D750, like say a 7D Mk II with a full frame sensor? that would have me in a heartbeat. As it is, I’ll stick with my 5D Mk III but I hope they deal with all of the above and give it serious consideration in light of what Nikon is doing.
I also shot an Olympus system. Excellent optics, killer high ISO…in normal light, great image quality in portrait and landscape but falls apart horribly in low light. So much so that almost all facial detail is lost at 2500-3200 iso. Other than that, I would have purchased that system and made the switch to 4/3. Getting off soapbox, thanks for reading. 😉

Odie Jasso, what do you think?

Are these prices good at all local authorized dealer, such as Shutterbug? Where I can walk in and purchase or online dealers only?
Authorized dealers will have to show the “MAP” or Minimum Advertised Price. You can try to negotiate down your dealer to match our street prices, or you can go through us to get matched to the online dealers who are willing to sell for these prices.
Ok. Thanks.
…just wanted to add that going through cpw works like a charm and they save you from the haggling, arriving as the best price. Kind of a no-brainer. CPW gets a tiny bit of gratitude from the seller by supplying the customer and the customer gets to find out all the deals in a very timely and digested way…going through CPW a win-win for everybody. It certainly was for me and my 6D!!! 😉
Jody McRaven Tanty
It’s a sign, right?! It’s just meant to be!!!!!!
True story!!! Did you see what the 6D and 5D III dropped too? Awesome sauce!!!!!

@canonpricewatch.com do you have any guess as to the release date of the 5D Mk IV?
Nope! We don’t post rumors either, just confirmed facts. 🙂
OK thanks, I appreciate that.

Oooooh shiiiit!!
Gee thanks canon. I paid 3300 for mine, so now if I go to resell it… Seriously? Why don’t you people just do that on new stuff that is coming out, or give the thousands of people that already bought the product huge rebates or free lenses or something.
Daunte Frazier Lisa Love White Da Glider Debra Chase Fluid-aka Junior-Bounce Sam Woulard
I really hope the c-300 markii isn’t crazy expensive when it comes out.

Any ideas how long the rebates, particularly the lenses will run? Got a lens on the list I would love to get but not in a financial position to buy a filter, much less a lens, right now.
This slate of mail-in rebates is scheduled to expire on March 28th.
Bummer … won’t be able to take advantage of them. Thanks anyway for letting me know.
There’s always the chance they’ll be extended, but we won’t know for sure until March 28th.
Are all the lens listed above brand new?
Absolutely. Brand new and with free shipping in the continental USA, from an authorized Canon USA dealer.
7D Mk II street price remains unchanged after today?
Please inquire for the different 7D Mark II pricing options.
actually it dropped $100.00… whoop dee dooo!
Waiting for the 7DII to hit $1400 street price.

Damn, I thought B&H would have these prices for sure….. $150 more for the 6D
Again, these are the street prices we know some authorized dealers are willing to sell at. Authorized dealers are restricted to showing a “MAP” price of $1399, but we know some are willing to sell at $1250. If you need help finding one that does, please submit the street price form on the 6D.
Milly Garcia look your favorite lenses!!!!
Clever! Thanks Ray Ray Mejia
Nobody will buy the 5D III at $2,499 now unless they’ve got something wrong in the mind. $1,999 and around $1,800 in this summer is a reasonable price. For the 6D ==> $1,000 is the right price
Well, I hope nobody buys it for $2,499 now, as the street price is $2,299…
pretty far off of the posted prices. I’d be a buying fool if the prices were what they are above. Looks like Nikon will get the nod since they have newer technology, glass just as good for less. The Nikon prices held and did not end at the end of the month. 24-70 f2.8 is $200 less than the Canon equivalent. I’m pretty disappointed.
Again, our posted prices are “street prices”, or what authorized dealers are *willing* to sell at. They are required by Canon to list at a “minimum advertised price” which is higher. If you have trouble finding a authorized dealer willing to sell for our posted street prices, please contact us (via the forms) and we’ll help you out.
If you’re going to camera stores and paying full list price… then you’re doing something wrong. 🙂
I was looking at B&H and Adorama. The lens prices are way off. Adorama has the 5D III for what’s above but the lens prices are about $150-200 off.
I’d love to see a list of sellers that are light and selling the 70-200 f2.8 II for $1849.00
Todd, fill out the street price form on the 70-200mm II page and we will get you in touch with one that would sell it for $1849 AR.
http://www.canonpricewatch.com/product/02968/Canon-EF-70-200mm-f2.8L-IS-USM-II-price.html?streetprice
This is from the official Canon USA online store, as of this moment. After-rebate price is $2499. Do I have to go elsewhere to get the “street price”?
Yes, authorized dealers are not permitted to advertise prices that are below the Canon-mandated “Minimum Advertised Price”. You can either ask a retailer for a better price, or contact us and we’ll help connect you to an authorized dealer selling for a better price. Read more at our FAQ here: http://www.canonpricewatch.com/blog/faq-street-prices/
OK thank you.
