We’re hearing that Canon will be instituting another “permanent” price drop on 20+ lenses on Sunday. The price drops on most lenses will range from $20 to $100. There will also be a price drop on super-telephotos, anywhere from $300 to $800.
Our street prices have already been lowered to include the price drop. Here are some of the best drops and new street prices (vs. the new MAP), with no need for mail-in rebates:
- $100 drop EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM for $1729 Street Price (vs. $1899 MAP)
- $100 drop: EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II for $1899 Street Price (vs. $2099 MAP)
- $100 drop: EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM for $1049 Street Price (vs. $1099 MAP)
- $50 drop: EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $849 Street Price (vs. $899 MAP)
- $100 drop: TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II for $1799 Street Price (vs. $1899 MAP)
- $800 drop: EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x for $9999 Street Price (vs. $10999 MAP)

We’ll post more details as they become known. We’re also expecting a corresponding reduction in the refurbished price, as the refurbished price at the Canon store is pegged at 80% of the new MAP price.
It’s nice to see these price changes, they are the third permanent price drop on lenses in seven months; the first big price drop happened in August 2014, thanks to a strong US dollar appreciating against the Japanese Yen. The dollar has continued to strengthen, leading to another round of price changes, required for Canon USA to fight off the grey market.
Any sign of the 24-70 f/4L dropping again?
Haven’t heard about that one yet. Just the really popular ones for now.
i’ll sell you my 24-70 f/4 L. i need a faster lens and was thinking about getting the f/2.8 mkii version. LMK. Btw, my 24-70 has been barely used.
I have a like new 24-70 F/4L available. I got it in a Kit deal with the 7Dmkii but never used it.

Thanks for the heads up. Maybe time to pick up the macro.
any rumors about price drops on the 5d?
Nope, it dropped last month ($300 drop and $300 instant).
what was the price at that point? the lowest ive seen it was US$2249 on b&h
MAP price is $2499; B&H had a bundle of 5D3 + printer at $2249 after $250 mail-in rebate; our street price is currently $2199 (no rebate needed).
Regarding B&H having a bundle of 5D3 + printer at $2249 after $250 mail-in rebate, could you provide a link to that offering. I can only find a 5D3 + printer bundle at B&H listed for $2549. after all rebates. I contacted them and they said that’s the only bundle they are offering.
I should have clarified that the B&H deal expired a couple weeks ago. Sorry.
ty, something to consider.
Service is awesome! I cant thank you enough canonpricewatch.com!
Am I going crazy, or did the street price on the 85 1.2L II increase this week?

Any rumors on when youll buy a calculator? You say $100 drop on 16-35/4 from 1099 to 1049. Thats 50…
The MAP price dropped from $1199 to $1099. That’s $100. Do not confuse our street price discount with the drop in MAP price.
street price is only $50 less than MAP on the 16-35 f/4? c’mon guys! =)

Any word on a price drop for the 300 2.8 II?
Hope Nikon feels the need to compete!
They don’t have to. They have high quality lenses in demand, ha.
The 70-300 f2.8 has had $300 mail in rebates that have brought the price down to $1899 in the past. Can’t wait to see where the price will be on the next mail-in rebate; think I’ll go for one then.
typo 70-300 = 70-200
